Title: My SX350 Box Mod build
Post by: Mev on August 21, 2014, 12:53:23 AM
Decided to get myself a SX350 chip and build a box mod. Will have a metal trim top and bottom and the body will be walnut wood.

 A few pics so far....

The grain on the walnut runs the wrong way really but I had to work with the only off cuts I have.
 Dimensions I am aiming for are H100mm x W50mm x D25 mm.

Nothing's fixed yet so frame is just sat in for pic..

Almost done....  wasn't happy with the window/frame so still deciding what to do with that and it needs a good polish up.
But here it is working so far. (still have to drill vent holes yet which I nearly forgot about in the rush to see it working).

Just to drill for the Fibre optic/led's then sand and polish the base and fit everything in.

Charging stand is done, lights red when charging and turns blue when fully charged or nothing on. It'll do for on my desk :)

It's nice when something you have made ticks all the boxes. All the frustration that got to you when something just did not seem right turned out to look amazing in the final product. There is no one worse than a self critic. I think it looks clean and well thought out mev should be proud of yourself
You have a real skill.

I've done most of the work on my new Mod. The main body will be anodised and dyed black and the front section will be plated either Silver or Nickel.
Still to mill out for bottom plate yet and drill out for the 510 connector, then give it all a good sand/polish and clean up.

Got the plating and anodising done, also milled out the inside more and made a cradle for the sx350 and usb pcb. Will get the electronics in tomorrow and it'll be done, will post some better pics tomorrow but here's one with my phone (without a flash lol)

I have silver plated all contacts inside and also changed the default wiring on the sx350 with silver plated copper wire, teflon coated.
