Title: PG and VG not mixing together
Post by: a1laserboy on January 14, 2013, 06:04:20 PM
Second attempt at mixing last night - using 20% PG flavour, VG nic and dilutant - no water or vodka as the PG seems to thin it all enough.

I noticed that the flavour isn't mixing with the rest - give it a hard shake and it goes kind of blobby, then cloudy - left it overnight and then came back to it this evening to find that the PG has split off again, like oil and water does.

last mix i used less flavour and some water and didnt get this problem.

What do I do chaps?

Black Liquorice from Alba (Flavour West I believe) Fi.

What ya trying to say Gedders? - should I shove a drop of water in it?  :P

not sure what to suggest to be honest ... its not realy something i've ever had to contend with.

if you're using same ingredients as made up the last mix, then only thing to do would be to exact the same process ...

here's what i'd do, even if only for the process of elimination ... mix a very small batch again but use significantly less VG ... perhaps up to 50%, no more ... substitute the remainder with PG or Vodka ... if it is a flavour with slight oil base, then it will possibly disperse or dissolve better within PG and alcohol than it did in a potentially too high VG ratio ...

Strange, never had that problem with a PG/VG mix.

Just guessing here, but could the VG have gone 'off'? maybe not stored properly or summink?

The photo looks as though the mixture has curdled.

A strange issue and one I have never had. Is the VG from an e cig source or from a general store? Maybe its not the pharmaceutical grade VG we use ???

I had something similar when I had some Clove flavouring...it would separate....

i may be wrong, but i believe it is 100% pure VG as supplied by Boots ... i would suspect the PG based flavour is at its maximum solubility and so requires more room to disperse ... additional alcohol or PG should allow for this.

How about warming the dodgy mixture up a bit by placing the bottle in a jug of hot, not boiling, water?

Could be worth a try if you've got nothing to lose  :D

It happens with red hots when i mix it nothing changes that. It just seems to be one of them things with red hot concentrate. Less pg more pg don't change the fact it splits if left over time.
look proper wrong but vapes well :)

shoved a few drops of vodka in it last night, still not mixing - had a vape on it earlier - wow - 20% flavour hits the spot!

Still giving it a shake whenever i remember. Maybe I just need to accept that it's not going to mix and go with it - it is nice though :D
