Title: Maklng vivi nova coils
Post by: bob2709 on August 14, 2012, 11:00:13 PM
After watching a few videos on youtube, i decided to try and make coil for  vivi nova. On my 3rd attempt now and think i am getting closer.  This time i did it the way scott done his phoenix rebuildable. Double over the wick and wrapped 4 coils. I am now getting some vapour out but not consistently. The ohm readings are jumping about between 2.8 and 3.2 ohm. Sits at 3.2 ohm before i try vaping it and under load. Does this sound right? I am using 2mm wick and 0.15 kanthal wire.

Sounds about right to me.

Could try with some thicker wire, then you'll get more turns and the resistance would be lower.

Doesn't really matter though if you are using it on a vv.

After i posted that it started really getting erratic, went up steadily to 4 ohms, then came back down again. Do you need to burn this wire before using it? Have seen videos where the wire is burnt before making the coils. The last 1 i made was totally sure it was spot on.

Burning the wire helps with pliability, gives a nice snug coil. :)

What would be the reason for the ohms jumping all over the place? Will try again another night. Maybe have better luck. :)

The coil could be making contact with the tube, I had one do the same thing first time I tried, there was a slight kink in the wire and as it heated it moved enough to contact the coil housing.

Got 1 working at last. 4 wraps of 0.15 kanthal and getting 2.7 ohms steadily.
