I think you have put everything in there Fi . I will get together with my mates and get some nic from nicvapes, didn't know about them.
I do mix my own and VG nic is expensive in the UK but here it is reasonable price..
I mix up 30ml juice for about 3-4 pounds max :D

yes I know just thought may look good on this thread  :)

Anyhow kicking it off how long can you store your ingredients for making your own Juices and where to store these? Also do your answers change once you have opened the containers?

When you buy Nicotine and flavourings they should give you an expiry date, this includes plain PG and VG......... Keep all liquids out of heat and light, preferably in a lockable box or cupboard if you have children and animals in the house.

Some people like to store their liquids in the fridge.

very helpful post Fiona and great reference for newcommers. 8)

one part does puzzle me though.

the Aqueous vegetable glycerine stuff appears very expensive. seems a ridiculous hike for just the simple addition of water.  ::)
purified water is generally cheap anyway but even a 35cl bottle of vodka could provide much better value above the aqueous stuff.

Yes I know, but its just an option....  ;D
seems very counter productive to pay £7 extra for a delivered version of a 99p product, particularly amid home mixing & money saving. ???

if anyone is wanting to achieve a saving and is willing and able to mix, why would  they then not add there own dilutents. ???

Title: Re: Mixing and saving money.....

Yes but if you have hard water it can mess up an atty.....Also tap water can quickly go stale tasting (I've been told)   Its a bit like filling up a bottle of tap water. It can taste gross after a day or so.

yeh but it is an option ..did you know you could use water lol
of course i knew.
to me, it seems equally viable to overpay any other vendor for their versions of VG.
im just baffled as to why that particular aqueous vendor recieves preference and positive exposure.

just out of curiosity where would you use Aqueous vegetable glycerine This is VG with distilled water.

I taught you grt your Nicotine PG
add flavoring VG
then add Vegetable Glycerine............Plain Vegetable Glycerine for cutting/reducing Nicotine levels.

I know the above is not that simple as you got to work out how much pg or vg without nicotine to add to make your mix ie 50/50 or 75/50 etc but where in the equation would you use AVG as I don't have any of that here

Mixing and saving money ........ I wrote this to help give options.............I think anyone with a brain can make their own minds up if they wanted to use the Aqueous VG or not....

Title: Re: Mixing and saving money.....
Post by: itsmeitis on April 15, 2012, 06:00:53 PM
we might often dilute VG. more commonly we use water or vodka. Aqueous vegetable glycerine is the poncey name that gives 25ml of water a £5.00 price tag.  ::)
Title: Re: Mixing and saving money.....
Post by: Fiona on April 15, 2012, 06:01:27 PM
Mix doctor using distilled water or vodka can be used if you use a high VG content, it helps thin down the mixture as VG is very thick and this can cause bad wicking............I would have gotten around to mentioning this in my next post.......

Mixing and saving money ........ I wrote this to help give options.............I think anyone with a brain can make their own minds up if they wanted to use the Aqueous VG or not....
i think pointing to it might give cause to confusion.
bit like adding PEG from TW. also very expensive, almost unecessary but moreover absent from the original lineup.

Thank you Fiona,

As I am after the hit more than vapor my base would probably be 70/30 so I wont need that that is what I wanted to know.

BTW I just tried a flavor that Big Bill sent me it is only 12mg not getting a hit BUT I want to make it now lol at about 24mg. Anyone heard of Black Mamba it is to die for looking for recipe as I am on here mmmmm

This will be my first mix defiantly

incase anyone might be unaware and while nicvape do sell 100mg strength nicotine, the UK has a permissible level lower than this.
nicvape has recently responded to uk concern and so offer 75mg which i believe is the highest level we can legally own or import.

worth pointing out prior to any e-liquid becomming impounded. :)

that is usefull as I would have got that if I came across it as it makes the workings out a little easier saying that the calculator does that but it would last twice as long making it cheaper again if I am thinking right

yes it does generally become cheaper by using a higher concentration. i find it best to buy PG nicotine base as the dilutent is cheaper too by way of using VG over PG. 8)
Title: Re: Mixing and saving money.....
Post by: mixdoctor on April 15, 2012, 07:39:17 PM
Thats what I have done knowing the flavoring is VG based as well I purchased the PG Nicotine from ewiz before I know all this also got a bottle of no nic VG  to mix down to a 70pg/30vg mix with my flavorings which I am guessing is 20% for flavors I been told.

Also I have dropped a level I think today as I been vaping 24mg and just turned the voltage up a bit so I am trying to come down a bit but not to much but I have noticed I am vaporing more

yes your vape frequency and style will probarbly alter for a short while and you will more than likely find the correct balance once you find a favourite setup, i.e flavour atty and voltage. some people get there quicker than others, but half the fun is in the learning. :)

Useful stuff!

Just a quick question. I have ordered my nic from Liberty Flights (50mg VG) and dilute it down with PG, ending up with a 50/50 mix.

Is there any noticable difference in flavour with nic from different suppliers? I wouldn't have thought so but wanted to ask. I've got enough notes already recording quantities of VG, PG, ratios of flavouring etc etc. and am a bit reluctant to add another variable into the equation if the nic tastes different  ???

Thanks.

I ordered Sunday15th in the evening and got it this morning 21st. Not only did it take six days but it was HALF the price of the UK and it is USA made.  ONE LITRE for £72, now that is cheap.

I finally made my first mix.
It being my first mix I didn't want to end up with wicking problems when I went to use it so opted for a 50% VG / 50% (PG + nic and flavouring).
I went for a low nic content (8mg) as I figured it would be easy to add more later if I wanted.
I also decided to try for an e-liquid flavour I'd never tried before.
Worked out the amounts on paper first then checked against the e-cig-reviews e-liquid calculator.

So recipe:
4ml of 54mg PG nic base
6.8ml of PG
13.5 ml of VG
1ml Waffle, 1ml Bavarian Cream and 0.7ml of Raspberry (all Perfumer's Apprentice)
and
4ml approx of various liquids on my kitchen table.

Tried it dripping with a 306 Olympian and then in the Genesis Maxi (no wicking probs).
OOF! DELICIOUS.
Lots of waffle, bit of cream and raspberry seems to come in as an after taste.
Not used to this level of PG so it is giving quite a bit of throat for such a low nic level.

Going to fill a tank and boge for work tomorrow to see how that goes.

First attempt and delighted with it.

Good luck! You won't look back.

I would just suggest small 3-5ml batches to start with and keep a note of what you do.

Also, a bog standard atty and drip tip are useful for drip testing your mixtures. The last thing you want to do is put the whole lot into a carto tank and find that it tastes like poo.  :o

I would suggest small batches and without nicotine ... this way you dont waste the expensive ingredient.
once you arrive upon a flavour you do like, then re-adjust the mix including your nicotine base ...  ;)

my kit arrived this morning, so I got 5ml mixed up using the ECR juice calculator.  It seems a bit watery and thin, so next batch I will only use VG as the 25ml nicotine juice is mainly PG.  I may consider going up to a higher concentrate so that I can get my mixes to around 50/50 VG/PG mix which is what I like to vape.  This mornings mix vapes ok though.  I was surprised that it is colourless, I ordered RY4 concentrate and I am used to the light brown colour from my normal Dekang mix.  Not keen on clear mixes, wonder if it is possible to colour it up a bit, I know that it is purely cosmetic.   ;)  Overall though I am pleased and look forward to more experimentation with DIY mixing.  ;)

it might darken naturaly over time as per oxidation ... e-liquids often discolour if exposed to sunlight too.
good idea particularly if concerned with costs, to buy a double strength nic base to then half by using a dilutent ... and also arrive at a 50/50 vg/pg mix or other desired ratio.

Started a different thread but then found this so will post here as well

Hi
Since I started vaping I've been using pre-mixed liquids and fancy a crack at a bit of DIY just weighing up ingredients etc , looking at different places to source PG and VG and came across a firm called Classikool on Amazon and wondered if anyone here uses them ,are they reputable , safe etc seems like the right stuff ??? links below

          http://www.amazon.co.uk/1000ml-Cosmetic-Vegetable-Glycerine-Glycerol/dp/B008S9KGKO/ref=pd_sim_grocery_1

Also came across this 72mg PG based nicotine solution at what seems like a reasonable price, £42.99/ 250ml anyone used it ? link below

                                                           Cheers Andy

Personally I haven't heard of healthy vape...but maybe some other members have....I get my PG and VG from eBay....http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vegetable-Glycerine-Glycol-USP-Food-Grade-Cosmetic-Grade-Kosher-4-Sizes-/121077388462?pt=UK_Health_Beauty_Skincare_PP&var=&hash=item1c30c654ae

The last link...they do VG too.....I posted these as an example....

Just wondering if there was an agreed on cheapest reputable nic base supplier?  From what I can see:

In the UK it's http://www.cig-eliquid.co.uk/Unflavoured_PG_E-liquid_DIY_base_72_mg___250ml__3798/p649230_10531412.aspx (http://www.cig-eliquid.co.uk/Unflavoured_PG_E-liquid_DIY_base_72_mg___250ml__3798/p649230_10531412.aspx)

If prepared to go further afield it's http://www.nicvape.com/1liter-75mg-unflavored-nicotine (http://www.nicvape.com/1liter-75mg-unflavored-nicotine)

Am I missing something better?

Any problems with getting from nicvape?  Is a litre of 75mg okay to import?

Cheers for any help

this thread is rather old and the market has shifted/evolved/altered significantly since this thread began ...

a good option nowadays, might be everything liquid, where you can pick up a litre of 72mg for as little as £60
here's a link (http://everythingliquid.co.uk/shop/liquid-nicotine-7-2/)

Brilliant.  Thank you so much for that.

Does nic base store okay for very long periods of time without losing nic content?

Considering buying pretty much a lifetime's supply lol

particularly if you buy PG base, it should be good for at least a couple of years in a normal environment and is widely thought to be fine for in excess of a decade if stored in a domestic freezer ...

it won't actually freeze in there, but will become much more gloopy, though only until it reacclimatise to room temperature.
