Hi Storm,

First you calculate the total number of drops which is the quantity in ml * the drops per std 1ml.

5ml * 20 = 100 drops

Next you get the proportion of PG with nic as
(the desired strength in ml / the nic base strength in ml) * 100 rounded.

12ml / 52ml = 0.23 * 100 = 23%

PG/VG no nic percent is 100 - PG/VG nic percent

100 - 23 = 77%

Now you have all the percentages

If you have a water dilution and/or flavour percentage deduct it from the No nic VG mix percentage

Water: 77 - 5 = 72%  no nic
Flavour: 72 - 12 = 60% no nic

Final calculations are the different percentages of the total number of drops...

PG/VG nic 77% of 100 drops
PG/VG no nic 60% of 100 drops
Water dilution 5% of 100 drops
Flavour 12% of 100 drops

Hope this helps with your java applet.

Brian.

Hey Storm. How did you get on with the java applet for your phone? Brian.

Woah, nice. This is pretty cool. Thanks for writing the script, Brian :)

This is very helpful an all but I've used it half a dozen times now to make up a 2ml batch and I only get 1ml. So, okay, I change the parameters to 40 drops = 1ml and it's fine. But how can it be 100% out!
What with being new to all this it makes me worry a bit an I have to wonder... Is it just me?

If you're doing it by drops, it depends on the size of the drops. Different drippers on bottles will have different sized drops.

I always use the rule of thumb that 20drops = a ml. As long as the same size drops are used for all the components the ratio will stay accurate but you may end up with +/- a ml based on 20 drops ;)

and also remember that the size of the drop depends on how hard you squeeze the bottle too

Make bigger batches, use syringes ;) :)
