under or over.powered?
« on: December 08, 2015, 11:35:09 AM »

Got 2 tc mods,  the smy 60w tc mini and a evic Vtc mini (upgraded to 75w). Both are very nice mods but there seems to be a big difference in the  performance in temp control.
Using the same atties and coils (ego mega sub tank thingy, 0.4 ti coils and the same juice), on the smy i have the temp set to 359f, while on the evic i have to set it to 600f to get the same results.
In power mode, using a 0.5 kanthal coil in the subtank at 30w, theres not much difference in performance, so no problem there.
So why is there such  a difference in temp mode. I know they dont use the same boards/chips and i would expect a slight difference in the temps, but a 250f disparity seems a bit much.
So my question is, which mod is the most accurate at reading temperature?

Just to add, if i run the smy at anywhere above 500f, the taste gets a bit nasty, verging on burnt. Still gives lots of cloud though, so wicking isnt the.problem i suppose.

That almost sounds like one is set to C and one is set to F.

both set to tf. In c mode the smy is at 175c and the vtc is at 315c

i agree with you about the pedigree  of joyetech over smy, but having to vape the vtc at its limit of 600f feels a bit wrong to me.
Still love both mods, even though they give different readings.

I also have the vtc mini and i have a ipv4s . Both are very similar running at 40 watts and 460deg F.
Are you running both with titanium coils?

I used Ni coils for a month and they did vary a lot on the two devices but the Ti have been a lot better and safer. Sorry mate it was a punt in the dark.

Quick update....
the evic is on its 4th coil, while the smy is still on its 1st and still going strong. I can only presume that the smy is more accurate and that, despite the pedigree,  the evic likes to eat my coil heads.

hmmm - i use/used my evic and aswell the mini for an amount of time and not yet blown a coil - i must admit though, the big evic while in constant use for about a month, was pretty much retired on account of picking up newer gear during vapefest.

well, ive just traded my evic mini for a koopor plus 200w and i can say without a doubt that the evic is way underpowered, in temp control.
the koopor and the smy both at 400f, same tanks, coils and juice etc are almost identical in cloud and flavour.  i believe i got the better of the trade, which makes me very happy.
gruff is well chuffed

not sure if this has anything to do with the evic being underpowered, but as soon as i got it i upgraded the firmware to the newer version.
