Sugar-powered biobattery -10 times energy of lithium
« on: February 04, 2014, 01:27:47 PM »

Sugar-powered biobattery has 10 times the energy storage of lithium:

researchers at Virginia Tech have successfully created a sugar-powered fuel cell that has an energy storage density of 596 amp-hours per kilo — or “one order of magnitude” higher than lithium-ion batteries. This fuel cell is refillable with a solution of maltodextrin, and its only by products are electricity and water. The chief researcher, Y.H. Percival Zhang, says the tech could be commercialized in as soon as three years.

Very interesting. Really intrigued by the medical implants potentially being powered by the sugar in the patient's blood stream.

don't put your hopes up...it's not a battery it's a fuel cell, and to deliver the constant output needed for anything more demanding than a small lcd screen would require a cell of massive proportions...it's just a jumped up potato battery chaps...lol
