Something to do...
« on: August 29, 2013, 09:22:15 PM »
So, landed myself some nice wood, and after being inspired elsewhere, set out to make something. And this was the result. After using a Sig 13a, this thing kicks like mad, short throw button (approx 1mm) can be stood upright, 510 connector, spalted beech wood, stainless and brass bits here and there. At the moment its an ally top cap, but will be changed for a SS when i make another. This was more of a see how it works kind of affair!

And im quite pleased with it i think :) its a day to day device since its better than the 13a i was using! LOL :)

I should add more "WIP" images to be honest, but here are a few anyway! :)

The mangled piece is what happens when you grip something too lose, and touch it with a tool....not good!

ALWAYS BE SAFE WHEN WORKING WITH MACHINERY! (Seriously) :)

Im not a professional, but im safe.

Thanks Zarf/Pyr0

Got a few other things in mind to be honest, so this was just a "tester" more than anything to see if the concept would be doable, in terms of my skill level, and it appears so! :)

Will keep this post upto date :)

yes, please keep this updated.
I particularly like how one you might play with the wood grain for effect.
I mean: depending on how you initially select and re-size the piece, you could exploit the grain's patterns.
I suspect that, structurally, you'll probably have more success if the axis along which you mill is similar to the natural growth axis of the original tree's wood, but perhaps re-sizing your workpiece so that these axes vary by, say, 15 - 45 degrees, may result in some interesting looks.

What special treatment does wood need, to best be used for this ?
(I know sweet fanny adams about wood ...)
