Help me out....
« on: July 26, 2013, 03:26:13 PM »

Hey guys, right, resistance im a little confused (LOL)

At the moment i have 2 wraps of 0.3 x 0.1 kanthal ribbon, which is reading about 1.2/1.3 ohms, i want to get this down to 1ohms or under. I dont want to make a 1 turn coil LOL so would i need thicker, or thinner ribbon?

Many thanks!

Or a dual coil setup with the same wire, if your atty is able to be set up like that.

You could try to wrap some coils in one direction and some coils in opposite direction on one piece of wick so that they cross eachother. This should give a quite low res. but  lots of surface to vapourize liquid.

So if i were to do 2 wraps, crossing over with the same wire (0.3x0.1 ribbon) would this increase or decrease the resistance? Essentially doubling the length of the wire...

two runs of the same wire - would equal half the resistance - i.e, if those two lengths are made twice as long, you'd arrive back at the same.

2 wraps @ the moment equates to 1.2ohms (ish) if i were to double the length, that would then equate to 1.2ohms right?

If i were to have 2 seperate wires, both 1.2ohms, that would still be 1.2ohms right? But more surface area leading to a better vape....right?

one run reaching 1.2 ohm, would become 0.6 if you repeated it to two runs.

Try this http://www.1728.org/resistrs.htm

You would be effectively running 2 resistors in parallel. I'm not sure how having the coils crossing each other would effect the whole thing though.

twisted wires also halve the total resistance.

True, makes it just like a thicker wire. Didn't think of that - could be a good and easier way to do it.

Yep more surface=more vapour output but that also means more power input is required to heat the wire up properly.

Thing is, when you wrap a coil, if you have wraps touching, it is effectively shortening the length of wire which is why I said about the oppositely coiled method possibly giving unexpected results
