"We have found problems with your computer"

I just recived a phone call.On the other end a man with an Indian accent telling me that  they are from Windows and that they have found a problem with my OS Windows
and I should go to my PC and follow some instructions to fix it. They also told me that they have my OS reg.number. So I asked them what OS i have and their answer was Windows 7. Ooops !
I actually have Vista lol. :P

I had a similar call a couple of months back and did just this. The guy was asking me to go to the control panel etc, so I acted more stupid than usual, told him that my computer had frozen and required a re-boot. Kept him waiting for 5 minutes, then said I couldn't find the control panel icon etc etc.. Had him on the phone for about 20 minutes then said I had to go out and could I call him back.

Never heard from them again.

Keep them on the line and wind them up! They try really hard. Then eventually ask what the Internet is :)

I shall do that next time he's rang twice in the last couple of months and he also rang a couple of times last year. The reason I tell him to f off is coz they nark me off just as much as ppi calls. I will take the time next time and keep him talking for as long as I can.  ;)

according to the guardian......In the same way, it costs them virtually nothing to make the calls because the international part of the call goes via the Internet.
so it would seem that making them waste their time isn't really costing them anything.

I have lots of fun by pretending im not good with computers and that im struggling to find the start button / Windows button they want me to press.......after 5 or 10 minutes I say "is it because I'm on a Mac that I can't find it?"

I usually follow it up by saying "now jog on ya mug!" Lol :P
