Nicoventures - here we go
« on: July 26, 2011, 10:45:45 AM »

I was roaming around the net and stumbled on this website

http://www.nicoventures.co.uk/

I notice that it is a 'stand alone company' within British American Tobacco Group

Here is a quote from there site;

'Nicoventures Limited is a newly created start-up company whose objective is to provide a new choice to smokers looking for a safer alternative to cigarettes.

Nicoventures will focus exclusively on the development and commercialisation of innovative regulatory approved nicotine products that provide a consumer-acceptable alternative to cigarettes without the real and serious health risks of smoking.

We want to explore the development of innovative nicotine products that, subject to regulatory approval, will provide smokers with an alternative to cigarettes and a product they actually want to use.

Why are we different?
The UK Government’s recently updated public health strategy for England recognises there are many smokers who may not want to quit smoking but who want a safer alternative to cigarettes.

We believe that the products currently on the market today are not meeting the needs of these smokers.

That is why we have brought together scientists, regulatory specialists, innovators and communication experts from a wide range of backgrounds to work together with the aim of providing smokers with a safer alternative to cigarettes.

What’s the benefit for consumers?
We believe we can offer adult smokers a range of innovative regulatory approved nicotine products which will provide them with much of the experience they expect to get from a cigarette but without the real and serious health risks of smoking.'

Looks like the tobacco boys are going to push into the vaping world.....................well they don't want too much money going into other peoples pockets..........I don't think I like the idea, I'm sure they'll try to corner the market.
When they say this; 'We believe that the products currently on the market today are not meeting the needs of these smokers.
That is why we have brought together scientists, regulatory specialists, innovators and communication experts from a wide range of backgrounds to work together with the aim of providing smokers with a safer alternative to cigarettes.'

What they mean is we need to start making money from vapers as well as smokers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They've had enough of my cash!!!!!

Also if big tobacco move in, will taxation be far behind?????
Cheers

Taxation on nicotine is inevitable. The real question here in the US (and to this point, I've yet to see this point raised in any article I've read), is when will Big Pharmaceutical convince the US FDA to re-classify nicotine as a drug rather than it's current classification as a poison in order to claim providence over nicotene. Big Tobacco is dead folks, and they know it. Reading the quotes, they talk a lot about how nicotine needs have not been met by current products. But have they actually shown what their products are? I haven't seen anything. Pardon the pun, but articles like this are just blowing smoke unless they are offering an alternative that one could obtain right NOW.

Looking around at a few other info sites and forums, it would appear that they are looking at some sort of aerosol inhalator cigarette shape device?
I know the MHRA are 'doing nothing' about e cigs at the moment but will no doubt do something at some point!

I tend to leave my radio on 5 Live when I sleep, and last night I woke at some point to catch, frustratingly, the very last remarks in what had clearly been a discussion about e cigs.  Dotun Abodayoe (sp?) was saying to some US correspondent, 'so whats going on, then? The Guardian is saying that in the UK the govt want to push electronic cigarettes and in the US your govt wants to ban them?'   The US correspondent said, 'yeah, go figure', and thats all I heard  ???

I think the UK Government have realised that they can make some good money on E-cigs. And also its a good way for them to promote Reduced Harm Nicotine usage (If they chose to)....We will see....They are sneaky buggers as we all know and I think all they see is Cash signs....If they ban them they will have to have a bloody good excuse to do so...

I can totally understand why our govt would decide to approve vaping and thereby get revenue from it, but I don't understand why the US don't see it as the same opportunity.  Is it because the tobacco giants are American?

you could apply that argument to any supplier in the e-cig industry...they are all making money from our weakness.
